Boston, May 21 -- The FBI has shut down the operations of an India-based call centre which it accused of running large-scale tech support scams that allegedly defrauded "hundreds of elderly victims out of millions of dollars through tech support scams".

According to authorities, the operation siphoned off millions of dollars and exposed what authorities termed as a wide ranging support network that helped sustain the fraud.

The case resulted post an investigation led by FBI Boston, eventually culminating in the arrests and convictions of individuals connected to the alleged scam network, including former employees and telecom service providers.
