Hyderabad, Sept. 1 -- Farmers enrolled in an Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) carbon mitigation programme for paddy cultivation in Telangana received the first tranche of payments at a farmer appreciation ceremony organised by Sow & Reap Climatech at the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT) campus in Patancheru on Monday.
Zaheerabad MP Suresh Kumar Shetkar presented cheques to selected farmers from different districts.
The remaining payments will be disbursed in phases, the Institute said in a release here.
More than 3 lakh acres across eight districts of Telangana have been brought under the programme, with farmers adopting AWD in place of continuous flooding in paddy cultivation.
