Bengaluru, July 14 -- Escalating its opposition to the proposed Greater Bengaluru Integrated Township (GBIT) project at Bidadi, a coalition of Karnataka farmer organisations on Tuesday warned the state government of a statewide agitation if it resorts to forcible land acquisition, accusing it of betraying assurances given to protesting farmers.
The Samyukta Horata-Karnataka, a joint platform of farmer, Dalit, labour, student, youth and women's organisations, alleged that the government was attempting to push ahead with a joint land measurement and survey (JMC) under heavy police deployment despite sustained resistance from landowners.
