Buxar, Sept. 5 -- JD(U) national working president Sanjay Kumar Jha on Saturday said the 1996 Farakka (Ganga) Water Treaty between India and Bangladesh was not in the interest of the country, particularly Bihar and should not be renewed in its present form.
Speaking at the launch of the JD(U)''s 'Nitish Samvad on Farakka Water Treaty' campaign in Buxar, Jha said any fresh agreement, if negotiated, must take into account Bihar''s water requirements at least up to 2050.
Jha said the Farakka treaty had adversely affected Bihar's water management and contributed to a serious water crisis in the state.
