Bhagalpur, Aug. 30 -- A two-day national dialogue on the India-Bangladesh Ganga water-sharing agreement concluded here on Sunday with participants calling for dismantling of the Farakka Barrage while continuing the existing water-sharing arrangement until its removal.
Organised by the Ganga Mukti Andolan, the dialogue adopted the Bhagalpur Declaration, calling for free-flowing rivers and equitable distribution of Ganga water among Bangladesh and Indian states, including Bihar.
The declaration said Bangladesh should not be denied its share of Ganga water and called for allocation based on scientific assessment of actual water availability until Farakka is dismantled.
