For almost nine years, the unmistakable voice behind chartbusters such as Bheegey Honth Tere, Channa Vey, Saathiya and hundreds of songs across Indian languages was largely absent from the recording studios. Rumours came and went. New singers arrived. Music changed. Streaming replaced CDs, reels replaced radio, and a new generation barely noticed that one of the industry's finest playback voices had stepped away.
