Lucknow, June 30 -- The ongoing rumblings within the Samajwadi Party in Moradabad district has forced Kanth MLA Kamal Akhtar to resign as the Samajwadi Party's chief whip in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly on Tuesday.
The decision comes after a dispute between Kamal Akhtar, a former UP minister, with the party's Moradabad MP Ruchi Veera surfaced.
However, the party has not yet issued an official statement regarding the reasons for the resignation.
To resolve the dispute, party president Akhilesh Yadav recently held a meeting with both the leaders in Lucknow.
However, the resignation of Akhtar could fuel further problems for the party.
