Chandigarh, July 18 -- In a major push towards strengthening Haryana's green cover, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Saturday directed the Forest Department to ensure that every tree planted in the state is geo-tagged, digitally monitored and assigned a designated authority responsible for its upkeep.

He said that plantation drives should be judged by the survival of saplings rather than the number planted.

Chairing a high-level review meeting on forest conservation and preparations for the upcoming Van Mahotsav, the Chief Minister also ordered strict action against illegal tree felling, technology-driven surveillance of forests and greater public participation in the state's afforestation campaign.
