Thiruvananthapuram, Nov. 3 -- Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Tuesday called upon the Public Accounts Committees (PACs) of Parliament and State Legislatures to strengthen financial oversight and ensure that every rupee of public money was properly accounted for and utilised for the purpose for which it was sanctioned.
Inaugurating the Conference of Chairpersons of Public Accounts Committees of Parliament and State Legislatures here, Birla said transparency and accountability were the cornerstones of democracy and the ultimate measure of public expenditure should be the positive difference it made to the lives of ordinary citizens.
