Shimla, June 2 -- A protest by members of the legal fraternity in Shimla took an unusual turn on Tuesday when lawyers intercepted the vehicles of several prominent officials and political leaders on a restricted road and pressed the police to take action against those found violating permit regulations.

The protest stemmed from a dispute over the use of a sealed road in the state capital. (Valid permits are required for use of sealed roads).

Agitating lawyers of the Himachal Pradesh High Court, who have been objecting to restrictions on their movement through the route, stopped vehicles passing through the stretch and checked whether occupants possessed valid permits required for access.
