Birmingham, July 14 -- England captain Harry Brook won the toss and elected to bat first against India in the opening ODI of the series here on Tuesday.
India skipper Shubman Gill said his team would have preferred to bowl first as they begin preparations for the upcoming campaign with an eye on testing combinations and providing opportunities to less experienced players.
"Most of the boys have played T20Is, and the rest have had a good training and are set for today. It's an important series for us; the preparations start from here," Gill said at the toss.
