Patna, June 23 -- Bihar Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Sanjay Saraogi today said the Emergency imposed in 1975 was one of the darkest chapters in India''s democratic history and asserted that the state had played a decisive role in defending democracy during that period.
Saraogi said here ahead of the 51st anniversary of the Emergency that the events of June 25, 1975, continued to serve as a reminder of the dangers of authoritarianism and the importance of safeguarding constitutional values.
