El Niño threat looms over Kharif season; State initiates preparedness measures
Pune, Apr 20 ( UNI) The looming impact of the El Niño has raised concerns over reduced rainfall in the state this year, potentially affecting the upcoming Kharif cropping season.In response, the Agriculture Department has begun advance preparations to mitigate possible risks.This comes after private forecaster Skymet had warned that the upcoming monsoon season may be "below normal", a scenario that is also negative for groundwater and reservoirs recharge and the power situation. The seasonal rainfall distribution will be at risk of being diverse and biased.
