Mumbai, May 25 -- Eight persons were killed after a car plunged into a deep gorge in the Ambenali Ghat section on the Mahabaleshwar-Poladpur Road in Maharashtra's Raigad district late on Sunday night. Police said the driver reportedly lost control of the car while negotiating the ghat section.

According to officials, the vehicle fell nearly 800 to 900 feet into the valley, leading to the deaths of all occupants on the spot. Rescue personnel had recovered five bodies from the gorge till Monday morning, while search and rescue operations were still underway at the site.
