Bengaluru, June 8 -- A total of eight candidates have filed nominations for the seven Karnataka Legislative Council seats from the MLAs' quota, setting up a closely-watched contest that will reflect the current strength of parties in the State Assembly.

According to the Election Commission schedule, polling will be held on June 18, with counting beginning the same evening. The entire election process will be completed by June 20. The last date for withdrawal of nominations is June 11, while scrutiny will be held on June 9.

The seven seats will fall vacant upon the retirement of members, including Govinda Raju, Naseer Ahmed, N Nagaraju (MTB), K Prathap Simha Nayak, Tippannappa, Sunil Vallyapur and BK Hariprasad, whose terms end on June 30....
