Cairo, Aug. 16 -- Egypt has warned that it will not accept any attempt by Ethiopia to control Nile water flows to downstream countries, accusing Addis Ababa of pursuing a unilateral approach and violating international law, state-run news agency MENA reported on Sunday.
An Egyptian official source said recent remarks attributed to Ethiopian Water and Energy Minister Habtamu Itefa about constructing additional dams on the Nile and "controlling" water flows to Egypt and Sudan further demonstrated Ethiopia's unilateral approach and constituted a "blatant violation" of international law.
