Kolkata, June 9 -- Scenes of public anger unfolded outside Bidhannagar North Police Station on Tuesday as eggs and cow dung were thrown at the arrested Trinamool Congress leader Sabyasachi Dutta while he was being escorted by police for a medical examination and subsequent court production in an alleged extortion case.

Dutta, a former chairman of the Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation and current councillor of Ward No. 31, was arrested late on Monday night following a complaint by a Salt Lake-based businessman accusing him of extortion and criminal intimidation.

According to police sources, the businessman alleged that he was being pressured to pay several lakh rupees and had received threats.
