Kolkata, April 23 -- The Election Commission has sought a report following allegations that Left supporters were prevented from casting their votes in Domkal in Murshidabad district, with fingers pointed at Trinamool Congress.

Tension gripped the area since Wednesday night, with intermittent clashes reported between Left and Trinamool supporters. A section of CPI(M) supporters alleged that they were obstructed from voting in the Raipur area on Thursday morning.

There were also allegations that Central forces initially remained inactive and that adequate assistance was not provided by the state police.
