Kolkata, March 23 -- The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday ordered the removal of 73 Returning Officers (ROs), most of whom are Sub-Divisional Officers (SDOs).
The ECI's action came on a day the state government challenged the poll body's decision in the High Court over the transfer of IAS and IPS officers outside West Bengal,With the latest move, nearly one-fourth of the total ROs in the state have been replaced. The Election Commission issued a detailed directive on Monday late evening confirming the reshuffle.
According to the notification, new SDOs have been appointed in several key subdivisions, including Tufanganj in Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri, Malda Sadar, Lalbag in Murshidabad, Barrackpore, Bidhannagar, Barasat, Canning, B...
