Kolkata, March 23 -- The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday ordered the removal of 73 Returning Officers (ROs), most of whom are Sub-Divisional Officers (SDOs).

The ECI's action came on a day the state government challenged the poll body's decision in the High Court over the transfer of IAS and IPS officers outside West Bengal,With the latest move, nearly one-fourth of the total ROs in the state have been replaced. The Election Commission issued a detailed directive on Monday late evening confirming the reshuffle.
