New Delhi, Sept. 10 -- East Zone ended a 13-year wait for the Duleep Trophy title, beating South Zone on the basis of their first-innings lead in the final at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Thursday.
The title was East Zone's third in the competition, with their previous triumph coming in the 2012-13 season.
With the match effectively decided after East Zone's commanding first-innings total of 708, skipper Ishan Kishan declared at 388/7 in their second essay after 99.2 overs.
The declaration brought the final to an end and sparked celebrations among the East Zone players.
Md Kounain Quraishi was at the centre of the final day's action, remaining unbeaten on 116 off 190 balls to register his maiden first-class century.
