Panchkula, Sept. 8 -- Haryana has introduced a five-year financial incentive to encourage farmers to adopt Direct Seeded Rice (DSR), with assistance starting at Rs 4,500 per acre in the first year and increasing to Rs 6,000 per acre by the fifth year, provided the water-saving method is maintained on the same land.

The Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department announced the scheme under the Promotion of Crop Diversification and Water Conservation programme. This initiative aims to address the overuse of soil and water, declining groundwater levels, land degradation, reduced productivity, and rising production costs associated with increased foodgrain output.
