New Delhi, Sept. 6 -- union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday announced a three-year, mission-mode roadmap to make India drug-free by 2029, calling the fight against narcotics a national security priority of the Narendra Modi government.
Addressing a press conference in Panaji, Goa, Shah said the roadmap, covering July 2026 to July 2029, would focus on intelligence-led enforcement, control of precursor and synthetic drugs, demand reduction and rehabilitation, and strengthening coordination and institutional capacity.
"Just as Naxalism was eliminated from the country, we will similarly eliminate the problem of drugs," Shah said, underlining the government's resolve to tackle drug trafficking and addiction on a national scale.
