Mumbai, Sept. 12 -- The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Mumbai Zonal Unit, has busted an organised gold-smuggling syndicate operating through the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) and arrested five persons, including two transit passengers and airport employees.
The DRI seized 3.56 kg of foreign-origin gold in wax form containing gold dust, concealed in eight capsules, collectively valued at approximately Rs 5.47 crore, officials said.
The operation was carried out under "Operation Golden Nexus" following specific intelligence inputs regarding the movement of smuggled gold through international transit passengers with the alleged assistance of airport personnel.
