Nagpur, May 27 -- The Nagpur regional unit of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has unearthed an illegal wildlife trafficking network engaged in the smuggling of Indian elephant tusks in Mysuru, resulting in the seizure of 4.058 kg of ivory and the detention of three individuals, officials said on Wednesday.

Acting on intelligence inputs, the DRI carried out an operation on May 26 in Mysuru, during which elephant tusks weighing 4.058 kg were recovered from the possession of the accused, according to an official release.

The Indian elephant is protected under Schedule I of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, which strictly prohibits trade in endangered wildlife species and products derived from them.
