Chandigarh, June 8 -- A controversy has erupted in Punjab's Sri Muktsar Sahib district after two youths were allegedly tied with ropes, assaulted and paraded through a village over suspicions of mobile phone theft, with videos of the incident widely circulating on social media.
The incident was reported from Jhorar village in the Malout subdivision, where the families of the two youths alleged that they were forcibly taken from their homes by a group of villagers, subjected to physical assault, and publicly humiliated. The families further claimed that the youths, who belong to the Dalit community, were abused with caste-based slurs during the incident.
