Thiruvananthapuram, April 16 -- Dr Beena Pillai, Chief Scientist at the CSIR-Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology, has assumed charge as the new Director of the Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (BRIC-RGCB).
The appointment, approved by the Appointments Committee of the union Cabinet, is for a five-year term. She succeeds Chandrabhas Narayana, who completed his tenure in September last year.
An accomplished researcher in RNA biology and neuronal development, Dr Pillai has led pioneering work on the role of RNAs in early development, neurogenesis, adult behaviour, disease susceptibility, and identification of miRNA markers for human diseases at CSIR-IGIB.
