Tura, March 16 -- Dormonath Ch. Sangma of the National People's Party (NPP) was elected as the new Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) on Monday following the resignation of incumbent Albinush Marak, also of the NPP.
Sangma's candidature was supported by 17 NPP members and four opposition Trinamool Congress (TMC) members, who had informed Governor C.H. Vijayashakar on Saturday that they had lost confidence in Marak as the leader of the 30-member GHADC.
