Bengaluru/New Delhi, May 26 -- After the Supreme Court's dismissal of Tamil Nadu's review petition, the Mekedatu balancing reservoir project has entered a decisive new phase, with Karnataka signalling that the next move is firmly in the union Government's court.

The ruling has effectively removed a key legal hurdle raised by Tamil Nadu against the proposed project across the Cauvery river, giving Karnataka renewed political and administrative momentum to push ahead with long-pending clearances.

Sensing the shift, Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar on Tuesday stepped up the state's position, asserting that the Centre must now take a final call on the project's fate.
