Chennai, July 15 -- In a shocking incident, a 35-year-old differently-abled remand prisoner died allegedly due to torture in Nagercoil District jail in the southern Kanniyakumari district, with the family members claiming he died on torture by prison authorities and refused to claim his body, sparking political outrage in Tamil Nadu with various parties demanding an explanation from the ruling TVK headed by Chief Minister Vijay.
As condemnations started pouring from leaders cutting across party leaders and the PMK, an ally of the Opposition, demanding a CBI probe into the custodial death, three jail staff were arrested in connection with the incident.
