Bhubaneswar, June 4 -- union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has urged Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi to upgrade the prestigious Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology (IGIT), Sarang, in Dhenkanal district into an independent unitary university, citing its academic excellence, institutional strength, and strategic importance to the state's industrial growth.
In a letter to the Chief Minister, Pradhan welcomed the Odisha government's decision in the 2026-27 Budget to transform Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT), Burla, and Odisha University of Technology and Research (OUTR), Bhubaneswar, into world-class technical universities. He said IGIT Sarang deserves similar recognition and development.
