Prithviraj SinghDehradun, Sept. 9 -- The Pushkar Singh Dhami government in Uttarakhand has shut down 107 madrasas for not seeking affiliation from the newly-constituted State Minority Education Authority (UMEA), which has been made mandatory.
Majority of these madrasas are from Haridwar, according to receipt of reports from respective district Minority Welfare Officers, acting under the State Minority Education Authority.
The Dhami government's ongoing crackdown against unrecognised madrasas, including those formerly working under the now-scrapped Uttarakhand Madrasa Board, has resulted in the closure of 107 minority institutions in the state.
It's significant that a majority of the madrasas, numbering 102, are in Haridwar district.
