Bengaluru, Aug. 22 -- The Bengaluru Zonal Unit of the Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) has busted clandestine manufacturing of pan masala and chewing tobacco on the outskirts of Bengaluru, seizing nine pouch-packing machines, 1.66 lakh finished pouches and about 8.4 tonnes of raw and semi-processed material, the Finance Ministry said on Saturday.

Acting on specific intelligence, DGGI officers conducted searches on August 19 at two commercial premises and a residential premises following discreet surveillance.

Both commercial premises were found to be engaged in manufacturing pan masala and chewing tobacco. One had GST registration but was not filing returns, while the other was operating without any registration.
