Aichi-Nagoya, Sept. 29 -- Dev Meena continued his rapid rise in men's pole vault, breaking his own national record before finishing seventh at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games here on Tuesday.
The 21-year-old Madhya Pradesh vaulter cleared 5.50m on his second attempt, improving the national mark of 5.46m he had set at the National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships earlier this year. The clearance was also a personal best.
Meena had entered the season with the national record standing at 5.41m and repeatedly pushed the mark higher alongside compatriot Kuldeep Kumar. He first raised it to 5.46m at the Inter-State Championships and added another four centimetres to the record on the Asian Games stage.
