Hospet, July 28 -- Deputy Lokayukta Justice B Veerappa on Tuesday came down heavily on officials after a surprise inspection at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hampi revealed that more than 200 unauthorised homestays were operating in the area without valid permissions.
During the inspection, Justice Veerappa questioned how such a large number of commercial homestays had been allowed to function without licences or approvals from the Gram Panchayat and other competent authorities. He sought explanations from the concerned officials for the alleged failure to prevent illegal commercial activities.
