Copenhagen, April 23 -- Two trains collided head-on in Denmark on Thursday morning near Hillerød, north of Copenhagen, injuring 18 people, including five who were critically hurt, authorities said.
The crash occurred around 6:29 am local time on a railway line between Hillerød and Kagerup in the North Zealand region, with 38 passengers on board. All passengers were evacuated, and the injured were taken to hospital by air and road ambulances.
Images from the scene showed two yellow and grey trains with significant front-end damage, facing each other on a wooded stretch of track. Emergency responders described chaotic conditions inside the carriages.
