New Delhi, April 26 -- The Delhi government is weighing measures such as distributing ORS to schoolchildren and halting construction work between noon and 3 pm, as Delhi braces for another punishing summer. With heatwave conditions intensifying, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has asked officials to enforce the Heat Wave Action Plan 2026 more strictly, calling this year's approach "more scientific" than before.
The plan comes against a backdrop of rising extremes. According to the government's own assessment, Delhi has recorded temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius for nearly 40 consecutive days each summer over the past few years.
