New Delhi, Sept. 24 -- The Delhi government has set an ambitious target of replacing 20,000 old and dysfunctional street lights across the city by Diwali, as part of its larger plan to transform the national capital's street lighting system with smart technology, PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh said on Thursday.
Under the Smart Street Light Project, the PWD is replacing one lakh old street lights with smart LED lights, and the entire target is scheduled to be completed by January next year.
The new system will bring a major change in the way street lights are monitored and maintained, with a centralised Command and Control Centre at PWD headquarters, which is going to monitor the functioning of the lights in real time.
