New Delhi, July 24 -- The Delhi government on Friday deployed two amphibious long-boom excavators for desilting the Ghazipur Drain, and said that the machines will be used to remove accumulated silt and improve the city's drainage capacity during the monsoon months.
Delhi Irrigation and Flood Control Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh inaugurated the machines at the Ghazipur Drain near Dallupura village, said the officials from his department.
According to the minister, the Ghazipur Drain, which carries water from Noida, Sahibabad, Chilla and adjoining industrial areas into Delhi, has accumulated large quantities of silt over several decades, reducing its carrying capacity.
