New Delhi, July 15 -- In a major step aimed at safeguarding citizens' interests and improving governance, the Delhi Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, has approved the Delhi Right of Citizen to Time-Bound and Ease of Delivery of Services Bill, 2026.

A key feature of the proposed legislation is a penalty mechanism to ensure greater accountability among government officials.

As per the provisions of the bill, if a government service is delayed without valid justification, the official concerned may face a penalty of Rs 250 per day, subject to a maximum fine of Rs 5,000.
