New Delhi, Sept. 15 -- The Delhi Cabinet on Tuesday approved doubling the fixed monthly incentive for Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) workers from Rs 3,000 to Rs 6,000, in a move that will benefit 6,725 workers engaged in the city's primary healthcare network.

The revised incentive will apply to all ASHA workers currently working in Delhi, while other incentives, including the travel allowances available to them when sent for special missions outside Delhi, will continue unchanged, an official said.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the increase was aimed at recognising the role of ASHA workers, who serve as a link between communities and the public healthcare system.
