Bhubaneswar, Sept. 21 -- A developing weather system over the Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a deep depression and trigger heavy to very heavy rainfall across several districts of Odisha, raising the possibility of flooding in major river catchments, Centre of Environmental and Climate (CEC) Director Sarat Chandra Sahu said on Monday.
Sahu said a low-pressure area currently lies over the east-central Bay of Bengal and is likely to intensify into a depression on Monday and further into a deep depression by the evening of September 22.
The system is moving west-northwestwards, though its intensification has so far been slow, he said.
