Agartala, July 26 -- The demise of an undertrial inmate at Tripura's Central Correctional Home has led to serious outcry on Sunday, with demands for an independent investigation. Relatives of the deceased assert that he was in good health just days before his sudden passing.

The individual who passed away, identified as Pranab Pal, was a fish trader from Hairmara in Agartala.

His family states that he was detained in connection with a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act after police discovered bottles of Phensedyl cough syrup within a fish shipment associated with him.

After the seizure, he was taken in for questioning and subsequently placed in judicial custody.
