Snehal SenguptaKolkata, July 29 -- Police have busted a cyber fraud racket in which fraudsters allegedly used money collected through investment and 'digital arrest' scams across the country to purchase gold coins from jewellery showrooms, arresting seven people and recovering gold worth around Rs 70 lakh, an officer said on Wednesday.
The accused were arrested from Baguiati, Serampore and Kolkata, while police suspect the involvement of more people in the racket and said further arrests are likely in the coming days.
The investigation began after a reputed jewellery retailer in Baguiati lodged a complaint alleging that a man had used a forged Aadhaar card to purchase gold worth around Rs 9.5 lakh from its showroom on VIP Road.
