Azamgarh/Gorakhpur, April 11 -- The cyber police in Azamgarh district of Uttar Pradesh on Friday arrested an accused who allegedly posed as a cyber crime officer and duped people of lakhs of rupees.

The accused has been identified as Adil Hussain, a resident of Parsa alias Aglahwa village in the Gola police station area of Gorakhpur district. He was apprehended from Paikoli market in the Rani Ki Sarai area in Azamgarh and later produced before a court, which sent him to jail.

According to Cyber police station incharge Devendra Pratap Singh, the accused used to call victims, impersonate a cyber crime officer, and threaten them with serious charges such as money laundering. He then extorted money from them under the pretext of settling the ...
