Chennai, April 23 -- Five-time IPL title-holders Chennai Super Kings strengthened their bowling attack by signing right-arm pacer Akash Madhwal as a replacement for top-order batter Ayush Mhatre. Mhatre, who had made a strong start to the season, was recently ruled out of IPL 2026 due to a hamstring injury. Madhwal has been signed by CSK for Rs 30 lakh.

Madhwal's journey in the IPL began as a net bowler with Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2019. He was picked up by Mumbai Indians in 2022 as a replacement for an injured Suryakumar Yadav, although he did not get a game that season. However, his performances in the nets impressed the team management and earned him opportunities the following year.
