Kolkata, July 27 -- The West Bengal Sector of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Monday observed the force's 88th Raising Day with a series of commemorative events, including a tree plantation drive, motorcycle rally, drawing and quiz competitions and band performances at various locations.

The 1st Battalion of the CRPF was raised on July 27, 1939, at Neemuch in Madhya Pradesh as the Crown Representative Police (CRP).

The force has since played a key role in maintaining internal security, law and order and managing disasters, among other responsibilities.
