Amravati, May 6 -- A racket in manufacturing and selling counterfeit soap and detergent products under the labels of reputed brands, has been busted by the Crime Branch in Maharashtra's Amravati city, police said on Wednesday.

Acting on a tip-off, police conducted raids at two units operating in the Naya Akola area, where fake detergent powder and soap were being produced using chemical mixtures and packed in counterfeit packaging resembling well-known brands.

During the operation, police seized goods, raw materials, machinery and packaging labels collectively valued at Rs 71.20 lakh.
