London, July 12 -- The crew members of a container ship that was attacked in the Strait of Hormuz and abandoned the vessel in a lifeboat have been rescued by local authorities, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said on Sunday.
Earlier in the day, US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that a crew member of the Cyprus-flagged vessel GFS Galaxy had gone missing following an attack in the Strait of Hormuz. UKMTO said the vessel suffered serious damage to its stern approximately nine miles off the coast of Oman, after which the crew evacuated and boarded a lifeboat.
"The crew has been rescued by local authorities. Authorities continue to investigate," UKMTO said in a statement.
