Pathanamthitta (Kerala), June 16 -- The CPI(M) has suspended senior leader and former Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) president A. Padmakumar from the party in connection with the alleged Sabarimala gold plating theft case.

The decision was taken by the party's Pathanamthitta district committee, which stopped short of initiating more stringent disciplinary action.

Party sources said the decision was influenced by allegations that Padmakumar had informed some leaders and close associates that he possessed information related to developments at Sabarimala, which he would make public if the party took harsher action against him.
