Patna, Aug. 29 -- The Communist Party of India (CPI) on Saturday launched a sharp attack on the Narendra Modi government, alleging that its 12-year tenure has been marked by rising unemployment, inflation, inequality, economic distress and a shrinking democratic space.

CPI Bihar State Secretary Ramnaresh Pandey said the BJP has repeatedly promised development, jobs, prosperity, good governance and a better future during successive elections, but people had instead been confronted with growing hardships.

"Instead of addressing the concerns of ordinary people, the government repeatedly diverts the national discourse towards communal polarisation, emotional issues and manufactured controversies," Pandey alleged.
